Expensive petrol-diesel increased the popularity of EV, sales are increasing even after parts shortage and delay in delivery
Despite the shortage of computer chips and other parts, the sales of Electric Vehicles (EVs) are increasing continuously in India as well as across the world. One of the main reasons for this is the continuous cost of petrol and diesel. On the other hand, governments are also engaged in promoting electric vehicles to achieve the carbon emission target, the positive result of which is visible in the form of increase in the sales of electric vehicles. The latest example of this is the sale of electric scooters of Ola, which has set a record of selling scooters worth Rs 1100 crore in just two days. Tesla, the world's largest and popular electric vehicle company, also posted record sales of electric vehicles in the third quarter of 2021.
Highest profit margin in history
Tesla posted the highest quarterly profit in its history. The company said that in the third quarter of the year 2021, it has made a profit of 1.62 billion dollars. In the second quarter of the same year, the company made a profit of $1.14 billion. Tesla posted a profit of $300 million in the same quarter a year ago. Tesla said that it sold a total of 241,300 electric vehicles in the third quarter, which is a record in itself. In the current year, Tesla has sold a total of 627,300 vehicles so far.
Expensive fuel boosts EV sales in India
The continuous increase in the prices of petrol and diesel has increased the popularity of electric vehicles in India. Petrol in Delhi is selling a record Rs 106.54 per liter and diesel Rs 95.27 per liter. Due to the cost of fuel, people have started buying electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers. A total of 1,21,915 electric vehicles have been sold in the country so far in the financial year 2021-22. At the same time, during the financial year 2020-21, a total of 1,33,831 electric vehicles were sold across the country. A total of 7,59,182 electric vehicles have been sold in the country since the financial year 2011-12.
Highest sales of three-wheelers
Currently, the highest number of three-wheelers are being sold in the country. One of the major reasons for this is the aggressive inclusion of electric vehicles in their delivery vehicle fleets by e-commerce companies and parcel companies. This is followed by two-wheeled electric vehicles. A total of 1,21,915 electric vehicles have been sold so far during the financial year 2021-22. This includes 58,396 three-wheelers, 57,043 two-wheelers, 4,726 four-wheelers and 909 goods vehicles.
EV sales in the country increased after Modi government came
The growth in sales of electric vehicles in India has been seen since the formation of an absolute majority government of the BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid special emphasis on renewable energy and electric vehicles to bring about a significant reduction in carbon emissions as part of his ambitious Swachh Bharat vision. This is the reason that the sales of electric vehicles have been increasing continuously since the financial year 2016-17 in the country.
