Bokaro: Four people have been trapped after the collapse of an abandoned coal mine of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) where they had gone inside for illegal mining.

The incident took place late on Friday evening at Parbatpur coal block of Amalabad police post and a special unit of BCCL could not trace them even after 24 hours of the collapse. No formal complaint has been lodged by the family members with the police till now, fearing legal action. The incident came to light when some villagers informed their colleagues about the incident.

DC Kuldeep Kumar Choudhary said that the NDRF team has been called for the rescue operation.

SP Chandan Kumar Jha said, 'We have suddenly received informal information about four people trapped in the mine. BCCL has sent a rescue team. We are looking into the matter."

Chandankyari's local MLA Amar Bauri, other leaders, and administrative officials have visited the spot to take stock of the situation. Bauri said, 'I have informed the DC about the situation. He assured me that the NDRF team will reach here on Sunday.

He further said, “The Parbatpur coal mine where this incident took place is lying vacant and belongs to BCCL. Local people sometimes enter it to collect coal for domestic use. It seems that all the four had gone to get coal when suddenly the layer of coal fell and they got trapped inside.

“The people trapped inside could be Laxman Rajwar, Ravana Rajwar, Anadi Singh, and Bharat Singh. His family members have told me that he was missing after the incident. Some villagers also claimed that they had heard his voice inside the mine.

The MLA said, “Whether they are involved in illegal activities is a secondary matter. The administration should first take serious steps to save their lives. A crack is visible at the spot, indicating subsidence."

However, the DC said, "As of now, we do not have any clear information about the case. Whether any person is trapped inside or not is also not confirmed. BCCL's rescue team is also not able to report on any findings." We have handed over the operation to NDRF."
