The Maharashtra government earlier this week signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian arm of the United States-based Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) to support the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Maharashtra.

RMI India - an independent non-profit working on the clean energy transition in the country - is expected to provide technical support for the implementation of the state's recently launched EV policy. The MoU was signed in Glasgow amid the ongoing COP26 summit.

Transport department officials said each of these vehicle segments is likely to be incentivized by a green tax levied on polluting vehicles. Importantly, urban local bodies will provide property tax exemption to residential establishments that set up EV charging infrastructure in their premises.
