Ola Electric delays deliveries of S1, S1 Pro e-scooters amid chip crisis: Report

The first batch of deliveries of the Ola Electric S1 and S1 Pro e-scooters will now take place between December 15 and December 30.

Ola Electric reportedly sent a mail to customers who have booked a unit of the e-scooter, stating that delay in delivery is inevitable.

Citing media reports, Mint said that Ola Electric has reportedly postponed the deliveries of its S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters by two weeks to a month due to a global shortage of semiconductor chips. The EV maker was earlier planning to start deliveries to customers later this month but has now extended the deadline to mid or late December.

The first batch of deliveries, which was earlier expected to take place between October 25 and November 25, is now likely to take place between December 15 and December 30.

The company reportedly sent a mail to customers who have booked a unit of the e-scooter, stating that delay in delivery is inevitable. It apologized to the customers in the mail and assured them that production is being ramped up to deliver the scooters to the customers at the earliest.

Ola Electric on November 10 opened the final payment window for the S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters, assuring timely delivery of vehicles to the customers. On the same date, the company also launched test rides for customers in Bengaluru, Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata. After this, the company started test rides on 19 November in five more cities - Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Pune.

The company is now taking test ride programs for its S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters across the country with an aim to cover 1,000 cities and towns by mid-December. It is telling this to be the largest EV test drive program in the country. The company has claimed that the response to the test ride event has been very positive.

The cities where Ola Electric will start test rides include Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Coimbatore, Vadodara, Bhubaneshwar, Tiruppur, Jaipur, and Nagpur, starting November 27.

While the S1 variant of the Ola electric scooter costs Rs 1 lakh, the S1 Pro variant costs Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom, before state subsidy).
