Murari Lal Jalan, who flies paper airplanes in the Upper Bazar of Ranchi, will now give wings to Jet Airways. The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has approved the resolution plan of debt-ridden Jet Airways. The plan was floated by a consortium of US-based asset management company CalRock Capital and Ranchi-based UAE entrepreneur Murari Lal.
The NCLT has now given 90 days to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Ministry of Aviation. So that they can allot routes and timings for Jet Airways flights. Kalrock-Jalan has proposed an investment of Rs 1,375 crore to restart the operations of Jet Airways, which was shut down two years ago due to debt.
The elder brother said - was creative since childhood, wanted to spread business around the world
Elder brother Narayan Jalan said- Murari Lal used to fly paper airplanes in the streets of Upper Bazaar with me and younger brother Vishal Jalan, today Murari Lal took over Jet Airways by flying paper planes. Father Ganesh Prasad Jalan was a paper merchant and this was his ancestral business.
Narayan Jalan said- Murari was creative since childhood. His thinking was always ahead of time. From the time he was 14-15 years old, the idea of a new business kept swirling in his mind. In 1988 a photo color lab named QSS was opened in the church premises. Then set up camera manufacturing plant at BIT Mesra. After doing this work in Ranchi for 4-5 years, he wanted to do something big. So he kept experimenting in new business. His dream was to spread the business around the world. He proved it by becoming the owner of Jet Airways.
Made identity in UAE after coming out of Ranchi
Murari Lal Jalan is the owner of MJ Developers Company in United Arab Emirates. He took the business of ancestral paper very high. He also worked for JK Paper and Ballarpur Industries. He has invested in sectors such as real estate, mining, trading, construction, FMCG, travel and tourism and industrial operations. There are investments in many countries including India, Russia, Uzbekistan.
Jet had a fleet of 180 aircraft, 3200 personnel
Jet had a fleet of 180 aircraft on 700 routes. While there were 3,200 employees. These included 240 pilots, 110 engineers and 650 crew members. The consortium plans to re-establish Jet Airways as a fully-serviced airline with 30 aircraft. The National Companies Law Tribunal has directed the defunct Jet Airways to give flight slots within 90 days.
