Draft Drone Rules-2021 released: Government wants to increase the exemption of drones, new drone rules should be made after the terrorist attack on Jammu airport

The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has released the draft of the new 'Drone Rules-2021'. After the recent drone terror attack on Jammu airport, all eyes are on these rules. In the draft, the government has talked about adopting the policy of NPNT i.e. 'No Permission, No Takeoff'. But the exemption has been increased significantly as compared to the old rules. Penalties for violation of rules have been reduced and also several requirements like Unique Authorization Number and Unique Prototype Identification Number have been done away with.

The government says that under the new rules, the government will be able to keep information about both the manufacturer and the user of the drone. Opinions have been sought from the general public on the new rules by August 5. After that it will be finalized. These rules will replace the UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) rules issued on March 12, 2021.

The sky will be divided into green, yellow and red zones

• The number of forms to be filled for permission, approval etc. has been reduced from 25 to six.

• A digital sky platform will be developed. Red, yellow and green zones will be clearly marked on it. The radius of the Yellow Zone will be reduced from 45 to 12 km from the airport.

• Clearance is not necessary for flying up to 400 meters in green zones and 200 meters in eight to 12 kilometers from the airport.

Former DRDO scientist Ravi Gupta says that to monitor drones, hexacopters can be worked on the lines of Coastal Security System. In this, lakhs of boats have been linked with identification chips. Similar mechanism should be there for drones.
