Massive fire at Bokaro Steel Plant: Accident occurred while carrying hot metal, 6 fire tenders engaged in extinguishing the fire, officers remained silent
A major fire has broken out in Blast Furnace-2 of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL). According to sources, the fire broke out due to puncture of a torpedo ladle carrying hot metal in the blast furnace. This caused hot metal to leak out from the torpedo at a temperature of 1300 °C. No casualties have been reported in the incident so far. Half a dozen fire tenders are trying to douse the fire. The work of extinguishing the fire is going on till evening. All senior officers of the department have been asked to reach the plant.
Blast Furnace-2 work also affected after the incident
According to information received from the plant, the incident took place when the loco was going to SMS with torpedoes laden with hot metal. The work of Blast Furnace-2 has also been affected after the incident. At present, the officials of Bokaro Steel Plant are refraining from speaking anything about the incident. While BSL's communications chief was not responding to calls from reporters, an official said on condition of anonymity that the damage could be ascertained only after the fire is brought under control.
Frequent accidents in BSL
There was a ladle blast at Bokaro Steel Plant earlier also, in which the plant had to suffer a lot. A contract laborer has also died after falling in the ladle. The body of the contract laborer was also not found in this accident. Hot iron remains in liquid state in the ladle.
