Amidst severe power crisis in the country, a tussle has started between NTPC and ECL over the quality of coal. NTPC Farakka Thermal Power Station has stopped unloading of coal rake sent from ECL Mugma area on Saturday. NTPC says quality of coal is poor. Sources said that Farakka NTPC has complained about this to Coal India. There is a stir among the officials of ECL regarding this. Railways may seek damages from ECL due to delay in unloading of coal.

• NTPC alleges poor quality of coal

Sources said that the ECL management sent coal laden rake from Central Bridge railway siding of ECL Mugma area to Farakka Thermal Power Station (NTPC) Murshidabad (Bengal) on Saturday. Farakka NTPC refused to unload the rake accusing it of sending stone mixed coal in railway rake. Sources said that the quality of coal in the rake is very poor. This will make it very difficult to generate electricity.

• Discussion of show cause with senior officer

Therefore, it was forbidden to unload coal. Along with this, a complaint has been made to Coal India. This has stirred up the ECL management. There is talk of shock to a senior officer. Here, ECL General Manager Vibhash Chandra Singh said that Farakka NTPC Management has made false allegations. Good quality coal rakes have been dispatched from Mugma area.
