India to deploy two S-400 systems by early 2022, will change the game with China
Two S-400 air defense systems will be operational in India by early 2022 as two Russian-trained teams get ready for work. The Indian system will balance the strategic losses arising from the deployment of Chinese S-400s in Ladakh and Arunachal LAC.
With the induction of at least two regiments of S-400 air defense systems on India's north and eastern borders from 2022, the Modi government will finally face strategic losses faced by the army on the 1,597-km Ladakh line after the PLA's surprise May 2020. Will balance Control (LAC).
According to Moscow-based diplomats, advanced elements of the S-400 system will begin arriving in India from next month along with deep-penetration radars (in order) of both systems. The two S-400 systems will be operational by early 2022 to match the Chinese deployment of the same Russian system in Ladakh and Arunachal LAC. Two Russian-trained Indian troops are ready to operate the S-400 system, which has a range of about 400 km into enemy territory.
The very close relationship between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has enabled India to get two S-400 complexes in a short span of time. That is why President Vladimir Putin is making a second exception to stepping out of his country to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 6 December this year. While President Putin has welcomed guests at the Black Sea resort in Sochi, that's the only time he has stepped outside. Russia was to meet US President Joe Biden in Geneva on June 16.
He has only had a virtual summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in June this year and will not travel to Beijing despite the format of the two countries' annual summits with India. Russia allowed Indian S-400 teams to train and close manufacturing facilities during the spread of the coronavirus pandemic over the past two years, despite the dire conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
When the PLA surprised the Indian Army on the northern bank of Pangong Tso, Galwan, and Gogra-Hot Springs in May 2020, it was quite clear that China had unilaterally extended the LAC by imposing the already rejected 1959 line on Ladakh. had planned to change. In the spring of 2020, the Indian Army was pushed back along with the PLA with troops and weapon systems coming for the annual exercise across the Ladakh LAC.
With 16 Bihar men led by Colonel Santosh Babu showing raw courage against plundering PLA troops at Galwan on 15 June, the Modi government proceeded to repair the damage that the army found itself on the Ladakh LAC. . The first was to induct T-90 tanks along with deployment of troops up to Daulet Beg Oldie (DBO) sector using Chinook helicopters on the Ladakh LAC. The second step was to incorporate omni-role nuclear-capable Rafale fighters with long-range air-to-air missiles to give air superiority and ground-attack cruise missiles.
The third phase, the most important, was a brilliantly planned military operation that led to the Indian Army capturing the heights on the southern bank of Pangong Tso on 29–31 August. With the PLA's Moldo garrison being threatened by the Indian Army, the Chinese got the message and the two sides decided to separate from both sides of the saltwater lake. However, there was still a strategic mismatch with the Chinese threatening the Indian Air Force with the S-400 systems deployed at the Ngari Gar Gunsa and Ningchi airports in Aksai Chin and throughout Arunachal Pradesh.
With the induction of S-400 systems on Indian soil, the Modi government has the answer to Chinese missiles and the Air Force in a worst-case scenario. Since one system will be deployed to the north, it will look after two fronts in Ladakh as the S-400's deep-penetration radar will be able to pick up any fighter or missile targeting India.
While the Chinese and Indian sides only reiterate their positions during the final round of the WMCC this month, the Indian S-400 capability will make Beijing realize the futility of putting forward deployments along with the Ladakh and Arunachal LACs. The only way forward is to ensure a peaceful and peaceful LAC for both the Asian giants.
