AKB NEWS: PM Modi said that he is not able to convince the farmers and only a section of farmers is opposing the laws but he kept trying to educate and inform them.

Three controversial agriculture laws that have sparked massive farmer protests across the country will be withdrawn, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today in a surprise announcement that comes ahead of major state elections.

The announcement came on the occasion of the Guru Purab festival when the birthday of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, is celebrated.

“Maybe there was some deficiency in our penance, so we could not explain the laws to some farmers. But today is Prakash Parv, no time to blame anyone. Today I want to tell the nation that we have decided to repeal it. have decided. Three agricultural laws," PM Modi said in an address to the nation.

"Whatever I did was for the farmers. What I am doing is for the country."

Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan have been camping outside Delhi since November 2020 demanding that the law be withdrawn.

The protests did not stop even after several rounds of talks between the government and farmers, disruption of Parliament, and hearings of the Supreme Court.

PM Modi said, "We have not been able to convince the farmers. Only a section of them was opposing the laws, but we kept trying to educate and inform them."

The opposition and farmers accused the government of implementing all three laws without much discussion in Parliament.

Farmers' unions argue that the law will expose them to unfair competition with corporates and also deprive them of their assured income.
