SAIL: Bokaro Steel Plant will be expanded, preparations begin to evacuate 19 villages

After the bumper profits of Steel Authority of India Limited, work has started on the expansion plan of Bokaro Ispat in SAIL. SAIL is aiming to expand at least 15 million tonnes here instead of the earlier proposed 10 million tonnes. This would require a role other than the existing premises of SAIL. Keeping in view the future requirements, Bokaro Steel Management has held a meeting with the officials of the district administration to clear the land.

In the meeting, it was agreed to conduct a survey of the people of the village again. So, that the format can be ready as soon as possible. It may be noted that the acquired house block of 19 displaced villages has 773.43 acres of land. Despite the acquisition of this land, Bokaro Steel could not be vacated as it was not needed at that time. Now the Ministry of Steel wants to increase the steel production of the country. To meet this target, Bokaro Ispat will have a major stake in SAIL. This has also been mentioned in the letter sent by SAIL.

What is the side of administration and SAIL officials

The district administration says that since these villages were acquired in 1964-65. Since then the number of his family has increased manifold. In the year 2015, the Estate Court has passed the eviction order. At that time the possibility of having eight thousand families was expressed. On this, the Director Project Land and Rehabilitation had said that the population of 19 villages can be estimated on the basis of voter list. For this correspondence should be made with the Block Development Officer.

Encroached areas of Marafari to be evacuated for steel cluster

1400 acres of land in Marafari area has been identified as proposed land for steel cluster, which is the land between Ukrid Mor to Railway Gate, which belongs to SAIL. At present, non-displaced people are occupied. However, SAIL will not face any legal hurdle in removing it. The work of preparing the DPR of this project was started in the previous government.

But due to Corona, the project could not be discussed further. Whereas the steel cluster has already been approved in the Union Budget. There is a possibility that after the wave of corona subsides, efforts should be made in this direction from the central and state level.

If the dream of establishing a steel cluster in Bokaro is realized, then Bokaro will be developed on the lines of the industrial capital of the country, Mumbai. Behind this, the officials of the Industries Department argue that after the formation of the steel cluster, the steel produced by Bokaro Steel will be enhanced in Bokaro itself. There will also be a possibility of foreign investment in the cluster.
